Renovation

Sometimes a lawn is too damaged or too old to restore back into a good enough condition even with maintenance practices & treatments. For these lawns, a renovation is the only answer. This involves re-establishing new grass by either seeding or turfing.

Lawn renovations are crucial for rejuvenating the aesthetic of an old-tired lawn. Over time, lawns can become worn, compacted, susceptible to weeds, pests, and diseases, diminishing their appeal and functionality. Renovations breathe new life into tired lawns by addressing underlying issues such as soil compaction, nutrient deficiencies, and poor drainage. By scarifying, aerating, over-seeding, and fertilising, renovations promote new vigorous grass growth, leading to a lush and resilient lawn that enhances property value and curb appeal.

Scarification.

Scarification sounds like a big scary word, when in fact it is merely the mechanical process done to reduce the thatch levels within the lawn. Thatch is the layer of dead organic matter that builds up naturally over time in-between your lawn and the soil level beneath. Some thatch is a good thing, but in most cases where there is a build up of too much, thatch can be extremely detrimental, it will restrict the passage of air, moisture and nutrients to your lawn. This treatment is typically done in the Spring or Autumn, an annual scarification is a pillar of a healthy lawn maintenance schedule.

Aeration.

This is the mechanical process of introducing holes into your lawn to reduce compaction and allow the passage or air, moisture and nutrients down into the roots of your lawn. Heavily compacted soil can be one of the biggest inhibitors a lawn can encounter, roots will struggle to grow and provide the support the lawn needs to produce and encourage healthy top growth. Having a good root structure is paramount in maintaining a healthy lawn. There are different types of aeration that can be applied throughout the year with each having their own benefits, this can all be recommended and discussed at your lawn survey.

Topdressing.

The application of soil, sand and organic materials to the surface of a lawn, whether you are looking to improve soil quality, cover newly over-seeded areas or level out a tired bumpy lawn, topdressing is your solution. Top dressing can also help with lawns that have drainage problems, introducing the right material to the lawn will help gradually change the soil profile of your lawn and improve the way water moves through the soil. The right kind of topdressing for your lawn will depend on your soil type and desired purpose. All of this can be determined at your lawn survey.
